What is a Pantomime?
Pantomime is the ancient art of actors in black & white stripes pretending they're trapped in a box - just kidding! That's 'Mime'! Pantomime is a very loud, exuberant and interactive dramatic performance characterised by slapstick comedy, satire and the classic 'good vs evil' tropes. Iconic stories, fairy tales and pop-culture alike, are weaved together in unexpected ways to create something entirely new. Pantomimes commonly feature a Dame, musical numbers and witty puns & jokes.

What differentiates this theatrical art from your ordinary, run-of-the-mill theatre is the audience participation! Heckling is encouraged, the fourth wall constantly broken and there are many opportunities for the audience to join the performance. Audiences will often find themselves yelling out "It's behind you!" when looking for something, shouting "Oh yes it is!" in response to an "Oh no it isn't!", and affirmation to characters in need of a confidence boost.

Behind the scenes, pantomimes are the perfect places for improvisation. The comedic nature of the scripts allows for actors to experiment in finding the best way to make the audience laugh. They become so familiar with their characters through this, that heckles during performances become a breeze! Inside jokes are carried through various shows, often by recurring characters (we personally love our (dim-witted) duo, Lenny and Carl).

Pantomime is an inclusive and welcoming community, here to bring you to tears through laughter and have a great time whilst doing so.
